The islands of the North and East Aegean are destinations in their own right. They are all very beautiful, and, as most are quite large, they have their own traditions and unique features. I know Chios best, which is an amazing island with truly remarkable traditional villages, monasteries, beautiful landscape and beaches, and lots more. Lesbos (or Mytilini as it is also called) and Samos I only visited once, and especially Samos made an impression. (Limnos and Thassos are still on my wish list.) All three have small international airports, but Samos is the only island that has some larger hotels to cater to larger numbers of foreign tourists. Nothing dramatic though: just like the other islands in the North and East Aegean, Samos has remained blissfully unspoiled.
