Kifisia is one of Athens’ most upscale northern suburbs. It has an lively centre with plenty of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars, as well as nice quiet residential neighbourhoods. In the past, rich Athenians had summer residences in Kifisia (which actually they used to call Kipoupoli – “the garden town”). Despite its more recent residential development, Kifisia continues to be characterized by greenery.
Shops, restaurants and hotels in Kifisia.
The centre of Kifisia is a small town on its own, where you can get your fashion shopping done and where at night you have a good choice of hotels, restaurants, bars and cinemas (open air in the summer). At the same time, it is easy to get to the centre of Athens – trains depart from the urban railway station of Kifisia every ten minutes or so and take you to the heart of Athens in barely half an hour.
Excursions from Kifisia
If you have a car, from Kifisia you can be in nature in only about 15 minutes: the mountains and forests of Tatoi, where you will find the summer residence of the former Greek Royal family, are stunningly beautiful. It is one of my favourite places to go for long walks.
