After Marie Luise Antoniadou finished Sto Roloï (and it had become, by far, the most exceptional place to stay on the island of Poros), she moved on to her next project… and outdid herself. She acquired the ruins of a small 19th century farm situated a few minutes from the centre of the village of Poros and turned them into two separate houses. She did them in her signature style, an appealing blend of old charm and modern freshness. With plank floors, soft-coloured walls, painted wooden ceilings, country-style and antique furniture, it all looks tasteful and inviting. It’s an attractive proposition: views are great; you get the necessary luxury (bathrooms with hydro-massage, superb mattresses); kitchens are well equipped; and groceries or entire meals can be ordered in. If you have the choice, go for the Anemone House, which has a small garden with a plunge pool. Otherwise the cosy Little Tower is a great alternative.

What makes it special to me:

The lovely décor and of course, for those who stay in the Anemone House, the little pool.

But what you should keep in mind:

If you stay in the Little Tower you do not have access to the pool.

There is a good choice of taverna's and restaurants at walking distance. Meals from one of the best (traditional) restaurants on the island can be brought to the houses. You can also cook 'at home'; there's a mini-market not far from the houses, and you can also have groceries delivered.

The Anemone Residence is in a quiet corner of the main village of the island of Poros. There’s a small bakery and an even smaller mini-market less than two minutes on foot, and the centre of the village is just over five minutes’ walk.

The ferries for Poros leave from Piraeus and take one or two hours to get to the island. You can also go by car via the Peloponnese (about 2,5 hours from Athens) and cross at Galatas (the ferry leaves every half hour and the crossing takes a few minutes). You will be met upon arrival at the port. The Anemone Residence is about five minutes’ walk from the port.

Separated by a narrow channel from the shores of the Peloponnese, Poros is only a one-hour trip by hydrofoil from the port of Piraeus, but offers a complete change of scenery and a real away-from-it-all feeling. Maybe not as eye-catching as its neighbour Hydra, where during the summer season boatloads of tourists disembark on a daily basis, Poros does have plenty of charm. It is blessed with dense pine tree forests, sheltered beaches (most are pebble beaches with trees for shade and incredibly clear waters) and a picturesque little town, but does not get a lot of tourism.

Poros gives you the rare chance to enjoy island life, while, at the same time, you can also go sightseeing. The ferry puts you across to the Peloponnese in just a few minutes, so if you rent a car, the ancient theatre of Epidavros, the famous Mycenae and the historic town of Nafplio make easy day excursions. Other wonderful daytrips can be made to Hydra, Spetses and Egina, all just short boat rides away.

Read here what others said about the Anemone Residence

Marie Luise, thank you for sharing some of the culture and traditions of this great country. But countries are made of stone and dirt and buildings are made of brick and mortar. What makes the difference is the people. Those who built the houses, who worked the land. They are the ones who made it what it is today and who gave it their soul.
You and the Poros team are part of this accomplishment.
Congratulations and merci!

We spent last evening together telling how wonderful our stay in Anemone House was but for the other readers here it is again:
We have now travelled 3 weeks throughout Greece and this place was definitely the most comfortable and Poros a very charming and intimate little island.
