From the outside, this family-run hotel looks like a typical Cycladic place: cubical shapes interrupted by an occasional arch, white walls, blue shutters and balconies, and a large swimming pool flanked by sun beds. Attractive enough, but in fact deceiving about the refinement of the interiors. Common spaces are furnished with comfortable and stylish furniture, including several family heirlooms, creating, along with many tasteful details, a warm and inviting atmosphere. The bedrooms are perhaps a little standard in comparison, but tasteful decorative touches (and antique brass double beds in some rooms) give each its own charm. Full marks go to the atmosphere of relaxed and sincere hospitality, owed much to the owners Clea and Sotiris. He will pick you up in the port if you don’t arrive with your own car and shuttle you to Naoussa when you want to go out; she will spoil you with a generous breakfast and delicious home-cooked meals.

What makes it special to me:

The relaxed family atmosphere is something you usually don't find at hotels like this. Clea and Sotiris are extremely attentive hosts. I also loved the decorative 'touches' and the large swimming pool.

But what you should keep in mind:

Some of the bedrooms are a little plain in their decoration.

Hotel Petres is set slightly inland, not far from the Naoussa, a postcard-picture fishing village on the northern coast of Paros. Kolymbithres, a stunning natural phenomenon of moon-like stones surrounding perfect little sandy beaches, is only a few kilometres away.

To get to Paros you can either take a ferry from the port of Piraeus (the crossing takes three to five hours, depending on the ferry) or you can fly from Athens. Hotel Petres is situated 6 km from the port and 18 km from the airport. Sotiris will pick you up from the harbour or the airport, but if you arrive with your own transport you should take the road from Parikia to Naoussa, and after 6 km turn right at the sign for Petres. If you come from Naoussa, take the coastal road towards Parikia and turn left after 1.5 km.

Paros is something of a Cycladic island all-rounder. Strategically located in the heart of the archipelago, it is quite easy to reach. It offers a combination of beautiful beaches, picturesque fishing ports, a relatively green and mountainous landscape and small traditional villages scattered all over the island. You can find peace and quiet, but there’s also an animated nightlife scene. There are places where you can practise yoga or participate in painting and drawing courses, and sailing, surfing, waterskiing, scuba diving and horseback riding are among the sports you can do.

Naoussa, a postcard-picture fishing village with its little harbour and whitewashed houses, is among the best that Paros has to offer. Parikia, the island’s capital and port, is very attractive as well, with lots of little boutiques, restaurants, café’s and an open-air cinema. And then there is Lefkes, a 16th century village nestled in the hills in the heart of Paros. With its whitewashed houses, narrow winding lanes, numerous tiny churches and rare green setting, it is as seductive as a Cycladic village can get.

There are good sandy beaches all around the island. (No matter what direction the wind blows, you will always find some that are well protected.) Even thought they get crowded in the summer, you should certainly try Kolymbithres in the north of the island, a stunning natural phenomenon of moon-like stones surrounding perfect little sandy beaches.

Lovely, adorable place!
Both Clea and Sotiris are very very nice and friendly people, and they did all their best to make our stay at their house unforgettable!
They teached us what to visit, where to swim, where to eat, when to go here and there and their suggestions were really SUPER!
They also spoiled us: every morning a different, delicious breakfast in a country-side atmosphere...absolutely fantastic!
The room we had asked for (nr. 5) was very romantic (Clea explained me that all furnitures were antique and belonged to her granny!) and quiet and clean!
Also the people working for them are very nice.
When we left, I told Clea and Sotiris that "we had felt home, far from home" and they appreciated it a lot...but this is simply the truth!

We visited a lot and chose every day a different beach, but we also left something to do and to see...so we have an excuse to go back to Paros again and to stay at Petres one more!

Hotel petres is a regular on our travels to Greece. Clea and Sotiris have created one of these very rare places where every thing is just perfect. We are going back every year since 2003.

We loved the Hotel Petres and found that the breakfast was wonderful, the accommodations excellent and we were made to feel at home by Clea, Sotiris, and Maria.

My (our) stay at Petres was superb. We travel a lot, mostly in good hotels, but this hotel is one of the best. Especially the "personal" touch: decoration and furnishing by the leading women (Cléa?). All rooms and infrastructure very clean. Nice and quiet location. And a delicious and varied breakfast - the best we had in Greece. But most of all the efforts and concern of the hotel owner, Sotiris. We arrived late by boat at the port - after midnight - due to bad water conditions. When I called at 23h30 the hotel to ask if our late check in would be a problem Sotiris insisted in collecting us from the port (12km from the hotel) himself. He had to wait until 1h00... The next morning he would not let us do the walk (2km) to the Naoussa city, to get a rented car, so he drove us. Great small hotel in Greece? This is a very good example for this title. It lays in the many little details.
