This mid-17th century house was pretty much in ruins when it was bought by three brothers (young lawyers from Athens) who restored it and transformed it into a stylish little hotel with only six rooms. Hidden behind the traditional white façade with blue doors and shutters, you will find carefully conceived, fresh, modern romantic interiors. Modern-chic furniture and fun decoration (lots of flashy orange, pink and red) combine surprisingly well with the old elements of the house. Everything is on a small scale. Just one table fits in the dining room; the lounge has one sitting corner; bedrooms and bathrooms are compact (but comfortable and with huge mirrors creating the illusion of space) and the swimming pool (not in use this summer) is… only 4.5 m long! This is the place to go if you want to enjoy island life with a modern twist and an atmosphere that is young and informal.
What makes it special to me:
The style and comfort (grrrrrrrreat mattresses), the intimate atmosphere, and picture-perfect Apollonia…
But what you should keep in mind:
Some of the rooms are small and a little dark. The Sunday-morning church bells can be loud!

Guests can use the kitchen to prepare their own breakfast and meals. There are also plenty of good places to eat nearby. Sifnos is famous for its food; make sure you try chickpea balls, a local specialty. |

Patriarca is located near the end of the central, pedestrian alleyway of Apollonia, the picturesque, centuries-old capital-village in the centre of the Sifnos. It is a generally quiet spot except when the church bells ring. The nearest beach is at 5 km. |

The only way to get to Sifnos is by ferry (three to five hours from Piraeus). From the port, you take the road to Apollonia. After you pass through the small ‘centre’ of the village where the post office is, you turn right in the direction of Platys Gialos, Faros and Vathi. About 500 metres after the turn, you will see a parking lot on your right, where you can leave your car and walk up to the Agios Speridonos church (impossible to miss) opposite to Patriarca. If you take a bus from the port, get out in Apollonia and walk up from the post office into the pedestrian streets on your right which will automatically take you to the main alley. It is just a few minutes’ walk along the main alley to the house. |

A bit off the beaten track, Sifnos features beautiful bays and a relatively green (capers abound) and hilly landscape, topped by pretty, whitewashed villages. The island doesn’t stand out for its beaches (though the south coast features
