There is probably not a single hotel on Mykonos that would dare not call itself gay-friendly, but this ultimately sleek, clutter-free outpost of style has gone all the way and is an exclusively gay venue. With lots of eye-catching white, designer furniture and elegant details, it is the epitome of gay-chic. The eight bedrooms are small but sweet, and decorated with a lot of taste (and whites!). Beds are superbly comfortable. There are also larger studios, apartments and a villa, with self-catering facilities. The hotel's lounge is superb, and the well-kept gardens and terraces have lovely corners to hang out. A large, crystal-clear pool surrounded by shady corners for lazy lounging and beautiful sun beds for sunbathing (clothing optional!), complete the picture.

What makes it special to me:

The cheerful atmosphere. The pool area. The style.

But what you should keep in mind:

You do get some noise from the road. Some of the double rooms are on the small side. And well, you have to be gay to stay here… (An exception was made for me!)

Please note: The hotel has recently come under new management and I haven't been back since.

The Geranium Residence Moonlight Hotel is situated on the outskirts of Mykonos town, just above the ring road, walking distance from the centre.

You can reach Mykonos either by conventional ferry boat (about six hours), high speed boat (three hours) or plane (several flights a day from Athens, also direct flights from abroad). You will find the hotel on the new(-ish) ring road around Mykonos town, at 3 km from the new port and at 2 km from the airport.

Mykonos is an island that barely needs an introduction. One of the most famous, liveliest, and most glamorous of all Greek islands, it is the ultimate holiday destination in the Cyclades. It is beautiful, it is fun and the beaches are among the best in Greece. It is a place to dance through the night, sleep late, breakfast on croissants, yogurt and fresh fruit salad, shop for some designer wear, work on your tan and show it off, sip cocktails while the sun sets and choose between lobster, fresh pasta or sushi for dinner. It first became en vogue in the 1960s when the gay and jet-setting crowd brought style into the island and turned it into the trendiest spot in the Aegean – a tag held until today.

The island has never fallen prey to the mega hotel developments and package deal tourism that definitely scarred some other Greek islands, though it has become pretty built-up. If you want peace and quiet, better not go in July or August. Watch out for weekends in June and September as well, when Athenians show up en masse. That said, there are so many excellent beaches to choose from, that as long as you avoid a few ‘classics’ like Paradise and Super Paradise, you will always find a good spot to spread your beach towel, be it on the white sand or on a rented sun bed.

Mykonos offers about all the entertainment you can expect on a holiday island, and it will really depend on your mood and tastes how you are going to fill your days and nights, and whether you will actually sleep during the day or during the night.  Do include a trip to the nearby isle of Delos, the legendary birthplace of Apollon and Artemis, and a major spiritual and political centre of Ancient Greece.

Came for 1 week and stayed for 2. Why? Because it is addictive. Beautiful room, great breakfast, and gorgeous staff. I could have my place painted all year long :-)

Great weather - we brought it for you and we ill leave it with you for the summer.

Too much food & drink & tooo little sleep…it will take a week to recover, But what a way to suffer.

Love the pool. It is beautiful and great for a swim.
Will be back next year.
