Set in the middle of the beautiful 36-hectare olive grove, Eleonas is a wonderfully quiet, rural agro-touristic retreat. Athenian owners Marina and Stefanos Vallis relocated here to enjoy a simpler and healthier outdoors life, and then also decided to share their new lifestyle with others. Architecturally, the buildings (one with a sitting and a dining room, the other with bedrooms) are not particularly interesting, but inside they are nice. Bedrooms are comfortable, very well cared for and nicely done with little touches such as the old photographs of the beginning of the oil production in the 1960s, but without any excessive decoration or luxury (excellent beds though!). This is a beautiful place to come for relaxing weekends or holidays. Enjoy the quiet and the outdoors, go for walks and swim in the sea. You will be well looked after.

What makes it special to me:

The setting, the views, the meals, the wonderful owners, the excellent beds…

But what you should keep in mind:

The village of Rovies is not particularly charming.

The food at Eleonas is excellent. You will get to taste some of Greek food at its best: simple yet refined country dishes prepared with the freshest of ingredients, and including of course the ever-present olive. Breakfast, served anytime after 8h30, consists of home-baked bread (including olive bread!), excellent coffee, freshly prepared juices, and perfectly boiled eggs. In the evening Marina serves wonderful three-course dinners (set menu).

Eleonas is set on the hillside in the middle of an olive grove on the island of Evia, 600 m from the sea and a pebbly beach. The village of Rovies is about 1 km from the house.

Rovies is less than 200 km away from Athens, and it is a beautiful drive. Cross the suspension bridge to Evia at Halkis and follow signs for northern Evia, Agios Ioannis Rossos, Kirinthos, Limni and Rovies. Alternatively, follow the national road up to Arkitsa and take the ferry to Edipsos (45 min), from where you take the coastal road towards Rovies (20 km). You should have a mobile phone at hand to call Eleonas when you reach the village, from where you will be picked up.

Greece’s second biggest island, Evia, is one of its most beautiful, and also one of the least discovered by tourists. There are some beach resorts and larger hotels – none particularly attractive (generally, appealing architecture is not what Evia is best known for), but most of this mountainous island has remained blissfully wild and unexploited.

Evia has a long and narrow shape, and runs parallel to the east coast of the mainland, and there are different places where you can cross. The capital, Halkida, lies roughly halfway through the island, and is connected to the mainland by a 700 metres long suspension bridge. Many Athenians have holiday homes in the area east of Halkida, which has become rather built-up. The southern part of the island is wild and undeveloped, and relatively dry. If you don’t mind driving on dirt roads, you can get to some amazing beaches.

The middle and northern part of Evia are green, lush and mountainous, with a beautiful coast. You can make wonderful walks through forests, hills and mountains, follow streams and discover waterfalls, or relax by the sea and have lunch in little seaside villages (Limni is particularly attractive). Don’t miss Edipsos in the north, a small, kind of old-fashioned town, famous for its hot mineral springs.

We again stayed at the Eleonas in Robies, Evia.    Marina and Stefano are very civilized hosts.  We stayed there four times in the past, and they never disappointed us.

It was an exceptional stay. We echo all the reasons given by the Norwegian visitors below. The place is authentic, eclectic, serene and magnificent. The hospitality, warmth and charm of Marina and Stephanos (proprietors) was exceptional. Just the thinking of this place is a form of relaxation for the mind.

The highlight of our 2 day trip to North Euboea was our stay at ELEONAS in the village of ROVIES. What we found was even more beautiful than we expected....This wonderful, family run hotel is situated on a hill - breathtaking views ...- so the setting couldn't be better. But ,what really impressed us was the attention given for each tiny detail. Eleonas has very obviously been designed with much love , sense for beauty and respect for the environment. It has that elegance and style that one finds in luxury boutique hotels. So, for all those who appreciate beauty ,peace and nature , this is the place to head for! The service is great, the breakfast perfect and the matresses the BEST in the world!!! SOOooo comfortable! And, the olive trees really look as if they are happy too!!! We would both love to return to Evia and Rovies just so as to spend a few nights at Eleonas' And we did return this May!! We loved it so much, we stayed even longer than planned. It is such a tranquil, beauitul place, paradise for those of us who love nature with all natures colours and sounds. Marina and Stefanos are always so helpful and lovely company. This time we were also treated to a telescopic view of the moon....wonderful. We highly recommend this hotel for it's peace, beauty and style.

Why are we back here for the third year in a row?
Why did we stay 18 days the first year when we had booked for only your days?
Why do we know that we will be back many more times?
Because of all of it! Because of everything!!
The relaxed atmoshere. The good feeling of beeing wanted. The food. The vegetables. The olives. The ice cream. The view. The olive groves. The silence. The noisy frogs. The beach. The good laughs. The spotless room. The crickets. Exploring the waterchannel.
