Set on the hillside at the east-facing coast of Corfu, Caragol Point is a beautiful converted 19th century olive press that offers luxury accommodation for one couple. It a small family affair: Elena and Matina Ginargirou who, with their parents, run a wonderful taverna by the sea, had the idea to create a place where you get all the luxury you would expect to find only in a many-starred hotel, but where you don’t have to share the luxury with anyone else. Thinking of everything their guests could possibly want, they spared no expense. There’s one bathroom with a shower, another one with a whirlpool bath, and, in the living room, a Jacuzzi tub flanking the fireplace. You will also find a large kitchen equipped to cook meals for ten, a home trainer, a huge selection of books and movies, and a large bed made with luxurious bedding. I could do with half the amenities and still feel spoiled, but for hardcore honeymooners it’s perfect. The garden is a treat in itself. There’s a sparkling pool with a wooden deck great for sunbathing, hammock hanging in the shade of an olive tree, and a shaded lounge area. A wonderful place to dream.
While I appreciate it, it is not so much the luxury of the house that does it for me. I was seduced by the luxury of the garden: the swimming pool, the hammock, the sitting area under the pergola, and the views...
2 bathrooms (one with a shower and one with a bath)
Television with DVD player
Fully equipped kitchen
Washing machine and dryer
Iron and ironing board
Outdoor swimming pool (heated year round)
You may be tempted to stock up on groceries and cook yourself, and never move away from this little paradise. But keep in mind that the family taverna is only ten minutes away, and, situated in a sheltered bay with a minuscule fishing port (Kouloura), it is one of those too-gorgeous-to-be-true spots that remind you how lucky you are to be in Greece. The food is great too: fish and salads are very fresh; pies are crisp; cooked dishes are traditional and delicious. Breakfast is offered to guests staying at Caragol Point, so here is my suggestion: go for a morning swim in the sea, and then let them spoil you with fresh juice, eggs, toasted bread, cheese pies and yoghurt with honey and fruits.
Even though the house is large enough, the interior is designed for a couple, and that’s it. Caragol Point a beautiful place to stay for a honeymoon or a romantic escape. That said, it is okay to come with a baby, and you a cot/crib can be provided on request.
Caragol Point is set on the hillside on the northeast of Corfu. It is 30 km from the capital (roughly 45 minutes by car). It is a very quiet spot with fantastic sea views. Barely ten minutes by car, you will find the beautiful pebble beach of Kerasia, as well as the idyllic little port of Kouloura.
Corfu is easy to reach: there are several daily flights from Athens and there are also direct flights from abroad. If you come by car, you will cross from Igoumenitsa (the ferry ride takes about one hour – there are several ferries a day). I suggest that if you come by plane, you rent a car from the airport. From the town of Corfu, you should follow the main road towards Kassiopi in the northeast of Corfu. About 5 km before Kassiopi there is a sign to the left for Vigla and Kamena Alonia, and for Caragol Point. The house is about 500 m up this road, on your right.
